Rafi Ryker, 25, from Zichron Yaacov, currently lives in Jerusalem.
Rafi served as a combat officer and commander in the Armored Corps division of the Israeli military and will begin his Law studies in the fall of 2022 at the Hebrew University.
During his post army trip to Africa, Rafi trekked the Osmbara Mountain range in Tanzania, where he first met the people of Malindi. Upon meeting Elia Msumba, Malindi's Regional Councilman at a roadside inn, they conceived the idea of a Malindi renovation project. Firmly believing that this quiet Israeli could help in implementing significant change to his district, Elia spent two solid days touring the district, it’s local schools and the surrounding villages. In the months after Rafi’s return, the pioneering delegation was formed, funds were raised for the project, and Afrikan the non-profit was born. Rafi has dedicated himself to managing and growing Afrikan in full cooperation with Elia and Malindi's local population.

שירת כקצין לוחם ומפקד בחיל השריון. במהלך טיולו אחרי הצבא הגיע לטרק הרי האוסמברה, בו פגש לראשונה את אנשי מלינדי והכיר בפונדק דרכים את אליה – יחד הם הגו את רעיון הפרויקט. אליה ערך לרפי סיורים באזור ובבתי הספר המקומיים ולאחר מכן במשך יומיים תכננו יחדיו את תוכנית השיפוץ הראשונה. לאחר חזרתו לארץ של רפי, בזכות הקשר שנרקם בין השניים, המשיכו לתכנן יחד 'בשלט רחוק' את המשלחת הראשונה במשך שלושה חודשים. במהלך שלושת החודשים גובשה משלחת חלוצית, גויסו כספים לפרויקט ומאז ועד היום מנהל את פעילות "אפריכאן" בשיתוף מלא עם אליה, ראש מחוז מלינדי.
